Key Accomplishments Nicole delivered for Woodbury
· $7.5 million in state bonding brought home for the Central Park renovations, plus a sales tax exemption for construction materials*
· $3.3 million secured in public safety funding for Woodbury*
· Clean water: co-authored state legislation to prevent further PFAS contamination in our communities
· Local representation: helped change state law so cities like Woodbury can establish wards without becoming charter cities
(*money from state investments means less money that needs to be raised through property taxes)
Turning Residents' Ideas into State Law
Worked with Woodbury residents to pass laws that:
· Make it easier for home daycares to operate in HOA communities
· Reduce barriers to reporting child abuse
· Increase financial support for veteran programs
· Helped local seniors get rent increases reduced (not a state law, local advocacy)
Working for All Minnesotans
In addition to these Woodbury-specific accomplishments, legislative work to benefit all Minnesota residents, including:
· Environmental protection, including serving on the MN Clean Water Council
· Voting rights and child protection
· Reducing veteran homelessness, supporting public schools, and more!
The Minnesota Senate DFL noted on Twitter in May of 2023, that with the passage of the Veterans & Military Affairs Budget, Senator Nicole Mitchell became the first legislator in Minnesota history to author and pass a major budget bill in their first year of service.
